Exploratory
Testing and Communicating the Results Phase
Students worked together to create a bridge with the constraints of
1. The bridge has to uphold 15 pounds
2. Has to be at least 12 inches in Length
The students read and researched about different kinds bridges and all designed there own beam bridge. The weight that some of these designs were able to withstand up to 60 pounds. Amazing!
Sometimes the simpler the design the more stable and study it is.

In this activity, students learn about engineering design by constructing rubber band-powered cars from everyday materials. The goal is to travel in a straight line for a distance of at least 15 feet (4.6 meters) within a 3 foot (0.9meters) wide track. Students test their rubber-band racers, evaluate their results, and present to the class.
- Design and construct a rubber band car
- Measure distance and calculate speed
- Test and refine their designs
- Communicate their design process and results
Collaborative Learning
Researching, Planning and inventing
Whats going to work?______Answer: Teamwork!
Student were collaborating, brain storming and communicating while following their designs.
Getting ready for FUNdraising
Mr. Gena was able to come in and help us improve our designs. He gave students valuable feedback to apply and reflect on. Students collaborated, discussed and imagined on how they can improve their design. It is a critical component for students to make their design better. Engineers constantly need to reflect and improve on their designs.
Giving a Helping Hand
Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis have been taking over the news. Students have been motivated to help victims of natural disasters. Mazel Day School students care. Student have learned to be empowered and to take action when people need help.
In this unit students have been learning about circuitry. They applied what they have learned about voltage, parallel circuits and series circuits to create a game. Students have gone though the engineer design process to create their own games for a fundraiser.
We have been using CIJE-Tech Middle School program to help us problem-solving by project based learning . Students gain an understanding of how key STEM concepts are applied. The CIJE-Tech MS curriculum involves inquiry based lessons and activities, where students carry out hands-on investigations that encourage critical thinking and problem solving. The CIJE-Tech MS curriculum is comprised of hands-on, minds-on activities through which students realize the application and relevance of their Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics education. The ultimate goal is to produce successful self-directed learners who are equipped to excel and face the challenges of the future.
